   The Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 USM L IS is a very good performer with few weaknesses ... that's assuming you get a good sample - the first tested sample was mediocre whereas the second one performed very fine. The resolution of the lens is on a very high level throughout the zoom range with only a marginal performance penalty at 400mm.    A popular lens that that is superficially well built but has a few quirks and an Achilles heel in the bearing problem. It is probably worth buying any extended warranty that is offered with it.    If you're in the market for a telephoto zoom with a pro-quality Canon L-Series lens for your EOS digital SLR, the Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS USM makes an excellent choice. It's built to pro standards and delivers the performance to match. It's a bit on the pricey side, but all pro-quality glass is expensive, so it's not out of line with the competition.    This is the first lens I got with my Canon 30D and now I use it on my 7D. For wildlife photography the reach of a 400mm is twice that of the 70-200 zoom. 400mm is 640mm with a smaller sensor - smaller sensor is like having a 1.6x tele converter. IS is great. Can use it at one or two exposure steps slower - 1/125 maybe 1/60 instead of 1/250. Lue Lisää Translate to suomi

   Tar suveräna bilder. Gediget och bra, men tyvärr har det på min, som på många andras, så har "nypringen" slutat fungera. Men löses lätt med en bit Gaffa(silver)tejp på undersidan. Då funkar det perfekt igen. Lue Lisää Translate to suomi

   I was looking for this lens in particular and found it on eBay! This was a great used product, in really excellent (mint) condition and at an awesome price! The lens is perfect, it is a workhorse, with all its functions working smoothly and the picture quality is what to be expected from a top rated lens like this one, the Canon EF 100 mm - 400 mm F/4.5-5.6 L IS USM Lens.    I compared this lens to the 70-300 mm f4.5/5.6 DO IS USM, using an EOS 5D MkII. At 300 mm and max. aperture, I can't tell the difference, although the 70-300 is obviously more portable. So I tested the 100-400 at 400 mm and maximum aperture, photographing a newspaper at 7.5 metres. With a normal tripod, IS set at 1, autofocus, ISO 400 and exp. Lue Lisää Translate to suomi

   This lens is great for cropped sensor cameras but is useless on the full frame 5DMark II based on the out of focus results. Sending back to canon did nothing to resolve this problem. I've spoken to other photographers while taking pictures at Bristkecone Pine Forest and they also had the exact same results as I including attempts to have canon fix this problem On the 50D camera body I'm extremely pleased with the results.
