   When we first saw the new Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 L IS USM lens, we thought it just looked like a standard 70-300mm lens with a white overcoat on. After using the lens for some time, we're blown away by the image clarity, sharpness, build quality and speed of focusing.    I bought this lens along with a Canon 7D , 17-40 ef-L lens and battery grip.<br />This zoom lens is a top quality lens producing stunning results for me.<br />It is a big lens, but I like that as it cradles nicely in the hand if using without support.<br />Build quality is exceptionally good.    I was really excited about ordering this lens, because the 70-300mm zoom would make the perfect "walk-around" lens for me. It was pricey, but "L" lenses are top notch Pro lenses. Sorry to say this lens was a big disappointment. The build quality of the lens was very good as expected for an "L" lens, but the Image Quality (IQ) was not.    I didn't fully appreciate this lens until I used the 70-300 IS DO lens. Very similar spec on paper, completely different in practice. Even at 300mm and at f/4 I got a lot of good shots with this lens. It's bright, sharp and the images had plenty of contrast.    Objektivet är toppklass, inget snack om saken. Snabb fokus, bildstabilisering och riktigt skarpt. Tyvärr lite högt pris men jag kunde inte låta bli att köpa det. Valde mellan detta och 70-200 f4 IS. Har provat 70-200 f4 utan IS och kan bara jämföra med det men IS gör riktigt stor skillnad.    I was looking for an upgrade for my non-L 70-300 and thought this was going to be just a re-badged and tweaked version of the one I already had... How wrong could I have been. If the subject allows the image stabilising will get you a pin sharp shot hand held at 300mm (on a crop sensor, so equivalent focal length of 480mm on a film camera) at 1/13sec without really trying!
