The new Sigma AF 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM is a refreshing alternative in the long-ignored standard AF lens market. The lens is fairly big and heavy due to unusually big glass elements but thanks to the design efforts it is already capable of delivering sharp images straight from f/1.4 and the resolution is impressive at medium aperture settings. However, expect some softer results at very close focus distances at large aperture settings. Lue Lisää Translate to suomi
Sigma are clearly marketing this optic as a premium alternative to manufacturer's own lenses. In some respects the higher price is justified, but in others it is not. How you use the lens as well as the camera system you use will be the biggest factors in determining whether this lens is good value to you. Lue Lisää Translate to suomi
When Sigma first announced the 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM in March, our story headline (courtesy of our news editor and punmeister-in-chief) was 'A new standard?', and this has turned out to be remarkably prescient. This new lens essentially redefines its class, and for once the results really live up to the marketing hype; compared to previous designs, we see significantly improved sharpness at large apertures (presumably due to a reduction in aberrations through the use of an... This high-specification Sigma prime comes with a price-tag to match, but does image quality meausure up? Lue Lisää Translate to suomi
The situation is rather rare – I have a problem with the cons in the conclusions because I don’t know what to add. You could wish higher MTF values at maximum aperture but you can’t find a real fault here because the tested lens’s performance is still better than its competitors’. You could wish a better autofocus work but the result of a 8% margin of error doesn’t look bad either, especially compared with the results of other independent manufacturers on a Canon body.

Lue Lisää Translate to suomi
What an incredable Lens....I actually love the weight of the lens and how it balances well with the camera. I use it for those low light conditions where flash would only ruin the moment. It is much cheaper than the Nikon counterpart and a great buy. Lue Lisää Translate to suomi
Having tried other 50mm f/1.4 lenses, I decided that the Sigma gave generally sharper images, better contrast and a nicer background blur (bokeh). It is a bit heavier than the Canon but that actually makes it feel more balanced on a larger camera such as the 5DII. It also has a 77mm filter thread which enables me to use the same filters as on my other lenses. Lue Lisää Translate to suomi
