   The Sony DT 16-50mm F2.8 SSM is an excellent standard zoom lens for Sony A-Mount owners and is particularly well-matched in terms of size and build-quality to the A77 body that we tested it with. Perhaps the only fly in the ointment is an apparent lack of sharpness at F2.8 that runs throughout the zoom range - you really need to stop down to F4 to achieve an acceptable level of sharpness.    This Lens is somewhat costly , though half that of similar CZ zoom lenses. The image quality is very good for a zoom lens, although to truly appreciate it, it's best if your camera can produce sharp RAW files. For example the Sony a580 produces slightly soft RAW files compared to other Sony cameras with the same pixel count., match the 16-50mm lens up with this camera and you wont be seeing the full potential of what that lens can do.    This is a beautiful (albeit not light or cheap) partner for the Sony Alphas, esp. the new A77 and A65. It might be the sharpest of any 16-50 2.8 on the market right now, and it is even sharper than the very pricey alpha mount Carl Zeiss 16-80mm, but of course without the reach at the telephoto end (but balancing that, it is significantly faster).    A very useful APS-C lens for Alpha and NEX. Very useful focal range. Fstop 2.8 is still special vs f/4.5 & 5.6 for more entry-level lenses. It isn't a cheap lens ($615), so the plastic-everywhere (but the back-bracket) is a little surprising (vs NEX's metallic finish on lenses). Once you have learned the cameras with starter-lenses, this can be a solid second-year purchase. Probably a first-year purchase with NEX7 or Alpha 77. Lue Lisää Translate to suomi

   • At the Wide end, distortion & CA correction needed for best results (automatic in JPEG for a77) , plastic body
