   There are two Sony 70-300mm zooms and the model tested here is the pro-spec G-series lens for full frame and APS-C cameras. If you are a Sony user who would prefer to pay much less for a 70-300mm zoom, look to the sub-£200 DT lens, which is similar in price to other manufacturers' 70-300mm zooms reviewed.    I highly reccomend this lens for Sony camera holders. Especially if you own the new Alpha a77 (now that is a camera) I had a less expensive 70-300 lens and was dissapointed with it. I can,t afford the 2.8 400 mm G yet, but until then this Sony lens 70-300mm G lens is excellent. My color quality is better than any lens I have owned and the sharpness and clarity is great.    IQ is great compared to the minolta 75-300mm lens I was using since film days. Size is a little larger than the minolta lens but well worth it for the better IQ. Auto focus almost silent and is fast compared to the 75-300, but that is the reason I purchased it, doing video.    I'm an amateur using an A55 and value the light weight of this lens considering the impressive glass and solid build. I love the colors (could be better than the 1680Z) and ability to shoot at any f-stop with very sharp images, the fast and silent focus, almost no CA/fringing, and smooth and pleasing differential focus.    This lens performs incredibly well. The whole range is pretty sharp, maybe a slight drop at the longest end, but I'm more than happy with the real world results.<br /><br />I've been using this lens extensively.
