   The Sony 35mm f/1.8 DT SAM may be a budget-oriented prime lens but regarding its performance it may even be a viable option for enthusiasts. Resolution-wise it delivers a very solid performance. A large center portion of the image field is very sharp at f/1.8 and f/2.2 - and this is where it counts at such a setting from a field perspective.    So the fast 50mm is the most popular lens when it comes to portraiture photography. But on a crop sensor camera such as mine the the 50mm lens is about 85mm and only lets me get the head and shoulders of a subject. I usually want to get the full scene of the picture which makes the 35mm perfect. Plus the 35mm is practically 50mm on the crop sensor. Lue Lisää Translate to suomi

   Some have mentioned that this lens is plasticky and indeed it is - but - it is well made and strong. Why do I say that? Well, on unpacking it (btw it was extremely well packed) I accidently dropped it ontp a carpeted floor. Fearing the worst I fitted to my A65 and found that it worked OK -much to my relief!!    This is about as cheap as worthwhile lenses get. There are only two lenses in Sony's lineup that are cheaper than this (the 50mm F1.8, and the 18-55 zoom, which I've also reviewed). As a very low-cost lens, it gets plastic construction, the SAM (Smooth Autofocus Motor) focus system instead of screw drive or SSM (the best focus drive around), and the most basic focus markings.
