   The Sony E 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS is a decent "kit" zoom lens but it is, of course, not flawless. The image center is very sharp whereas the border/corner region is softer although still acceptable. A weakness is the high amount of lateral CAs at 18mm and 35mm which decreases the subjective quality perception quite a bit if you don't care about it during post-processing.    I took this lens on various trips and really regret it now as some of my pictures are really incredibly low quality as a result of the lens. Specifically, its softening of the image around the edges when the lens is at the shorter focal lengths. After some tests it seems to be that its shooting at low f-stops that causes this.    Nice starter lens for NEX. CDAF functions VASTLY improve after NEX3 firmware 5.0 (different numbers for each NEX). Still not for fast-action photos, though. Good for basic NEX video, too. Lue Lisää Translate to suomi

   • Metallic construction, good IQ, useful zoom range, reasonable cost, quiet/small/light, consistent with NEX small-camera motif.
   • Somewhat lower IQ than Alpha version, MF isn't 'direct', not very fast fstop
