   LaCie's Rugged Hard Disk gets its name from its rigid metal case and the thick orange rubber bumper that surrounds it. Although we wouldn't want to drop any hard disk, the Rugged feels more robust than many disks. The Rugged is also notable for being the only portable disk here with both FireWire 400 and 800 ports in addition to USB. Although we resisted performing a drop-kick test, the rugged moniker might lull some users into thinking that the drive’s rubber bumper offers more protection than just shock resistance.    Yep, one month after I purchased this hard drive, the firewire 800 port stopped working. Freaking fabulous. I purchased a LaCie because I was under the impression that they sold quality products. I'm so looking forward to contacting the company and getting this sorted out when I'm in the middle of a giant project. Seriously?? one month?! This made me quite angry.    I travel a lot and typically I have to carry lots of files with me, and my laptop does not have enough space to hold all the information anymore. I've had several Lacie drives in the past and have always been happy with them, so Lacie drives was a natural choice for me when I was looking for a new portable drive.    Hard drive was on my desk for two years. Only plugged it in to back up maybe once a week. After two years, it started making noises. Customer service is horrible at Lacie.
