   Overall, the 1TB Western Digital MyBook external hard drive is a great cheap storage drive that will work seamlessly with your Mac. The reliability of this drive is frequently questioned, as there have been several consumers who have owned defective drives.    The My Book Mac Edition is thick, about as wide and tall as a hardcover book. It’s a heavy desktop drive and will likely spend its life perched on your desk. Should it fall, I wouldn’t trust it to survive a drop of more than a few feet; the exterior seems poorly equipped to cushion the mechanism inside.    These are fast and green hard drives that use very little power. I love the sleep mode. Some people complain that it doesn't wake up, but Windows 7 has a feature that will keep external drives on and wake them up from hibernate mode as necessary. I have mine hooked up via eSATA and RAID 1 for failover. Remember to setup RAID via USB. The only flaw that I have is Western Digitals’ software, which sucks for Windows 7.    The My Book Studio II 4TB was recommended to me by my son - link and all. After much research, he now has several of these in his branding solutions business where backup and storage are critical.
