The tape-based HV40 ($999 MSRP ) isn’t exactly a flashy, cutting-edge camcorder from Canon. It is one of only a few HDV models—from any manufacturer—that’s new for 2009, but it represents only a minor upgrade over last year’s HV30. These improvements include a native-progressive 24p mode as well as some slight design alterations. This review is organized into 13 pages Page 1 Product Tour Read More... Page 2 Design Read More... In essence the Canon Legria HV40 is a tweaked version of last year's Canon HV30 with some minor extras thrown in, including native 24p recording and a multipurpose Custom Key on the side of the lens barrel. As product refreshes go, it's pretty nominal stuff - which makes the price markup more than a bit cheeky. Nevertheless, if you require a tape-based camcorder for serious videography, the Canon Legria HV40 is unquestionably the best performer on the market. Lue Lisää Translate to suomi
The camcorder’s jaw dropping color sensitivity will make your movies more vivid. The 1080i up-scaling makes it not likely to go obsolete till next five years (never heard of something beyond 1080 either). I will recommend using a camera-stand if you want to make serious videos. The camera has numerous picture modes each as signature of canon ’s technology. Lue Lisää Translate to suomi
I bought this product to use for an independent movie I wanted to make. I did a lot of research and found that the HV40 was going to fit best within my budget and needs. It came through for me. Still using this but so far, everything I wanted was within this camera, and more importantly (for an amateur such as myself) what needed to be achieved was done so with ease. I don't know why they discontinued this series of camcorders because it was a great camcorder. Lue Lisää Translate to suomi
This is the best camera i have owned and lets you use prosumer features when it is a consumer camera. If you have a small budget I would definitely recommend this camcorder. Lue Lisää Translate to suomi
Previous camera was Panasonic SD 3CCD minidv(£299.95 Oct'2007). Have been making film for 'bout 2yrs now and wanted to upgrade to HD. Was introduced to filmmaking via tape and have to-day something like 80 tapes(60min)all with useful footage contained and so re-placement had to be minidv,(HV40 downconverts to SD),dropped the Panasonic recently, had it repaired and continues to work fine but 4yrs old so who knows what's next? Cannot transfer video to computer without a firewire port or a firewire card. Took video at my daughter's dance conference and now I have no way to transfer the images to the computer to edit. Computer will not recognize the Canon Vixia unless it has an installed firewire card, port, or high definition software already installed on the camera. Others said to use a DV but none are available that fit this camera. Lue Lisää Translate to suomi
Over all good Camcorder, No Real performance improvement over the HV30 or even the HV20, manual focus ring would be great, placement of mic generate wind noise, poor quality in low light situations, great picture out door. Lue Lisää Translate to suomi
